Hohner Lanikai Ukuleles
Lanikai ukuleles are made in China by the multinational Hohner music company. Lanikai were some of the first well made, affordable ukuleles available on the market. Today there are many similar ukuleles to the Lanikai ukes, probably because the same factory in China is making ukuleles for many different brands.

About the Hohner Lanikai Ukulele Range
Hohner Lanikai ukuleles are good quality, lower end of the price range ukes. Lanikai ukuleles usually come with reasonable quality geared tuners, and are mostly made from laminated or plywood, finished in Nato wood. Nearly all the Lanikai ukes we've seen would benefit from a change of strings. Most Lanikais come fitted with GHS strings from factory. GHS strings are OK, but many people don't realise that in fact factories often use lower quality strings to those available to buy as sets generally. Same brand, just not quite the same quality. So if you're buying a Lanikai ukulele - or any cheaper ukulele - always budget for a new set of strings too. Aquilas or Worths will do the trick.
Hohner are a large company and make instruments on a large scale, and as such, one or 2 poor quality instruments may slip through the quality control every now and then. In which case, always try to buy a ukulele from a reputable dealer, and preferably someone who knows about ukuleles (as a test, ask if they stock Aquila strings), rather than a general music shop who have recently heard everyone is buying a ukulele, so have reluctantly decided to stock a few (usually Lanikai and Staggs) but would really rather be selling "serious" instruments like guitars.
If you can't find what you are looking for in the Lanikai ukuleles range, then also see the Kala ukuleles, and particularly the Ohana ukuleles.
